Local and state agencies coming together for 2023 Emergency Preparedness Fair at Del Monte Shopping Center

The free fair will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and offers tips, tools, and resources to prepare for potential disasters or emergencies.
MONTEREY, CA. — A free, family-friendly Emergency Preparedness Fair hosted by Montage Health will be held at Del Monte Shopping Center on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
This community event offers participants information on how to prepare for potential local disasters or personal emergencies. Attending agencies include Aspire Health, Monterey Fire, Cal Fire, the SPCA, and Montage Health.
The first 500 attendees receive a free emergency preparedness “starter kit” courtesy of Montage Health. The kits include a duffle bag, solar flashlight, and first aid kit.
Demonstrations and activities include fire extinguisher training, how to shut off natural gas, home safety, fire-safe landscaping, emergency kit essentials, navigating roads safely, communication sources, safe food and water, smoke detectors and telephones for deaf and hard of hearing, earthquake and flood preparation tips, and much more.
Vehicles including firetrucks, the mobile health clinic, and a demonstration trailer will be on hand to show families how to address many hazards, including home and kitchen fires.
How do you put together an emergency preparedness kit? How much water should you have on hand? If you must leave your home quickly, what would you take? If you must go to a shelter, what would you do with your pets? What should you include in a family emergency plan? The Emergency Preparedness Fair provides guidance and tools to help answer those questions.
The fair is made possible with support from Montage Health Foundation and through the Community Benefit program at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula that provided $182.9 million in total community support in 2022.
